October Hair Carnival....Breast Cancer Awareness

I am so excited to be participating in this month's hair carnival. The topic...Breast Cancer awareness. My family has been affected by breast cancer, so this topic really hits close to home for me. I participate in fundraisers for different cancers several times a year, but I am always looking for ways that I can do more. What a great idea this was!

Here is how I achieved this style:

I parted her hair from ear to ear, banded that section and left it for later. Then I made 6 even parts in her hair, and separated the parts with bands.

I began braiding, from the middle left section, to the top right section, to the top left section, and back down to the middle rght section.

The bottom two sections are banded, balled, and three strand twisted. The remaining hair from the right middle section is added in with the hair from the right bottom section and twisted.

Then I added ribbon, pink of course!

The best part about this Hair Carnival? The Princess and I were able to have a long talk about Breast Cancer Awareness, and she is prepared to share her new knowledge with anyone who comments on her hair. Isn't that the whole point? Not just to showcase our fantastic hair styling skills, but to put those skills to good use by raising awareness for this horrible disease? Cornrows, ribbons, braid outs, and a big blue flower!

It sounds like there is a lot going on here, but it actually all works together nicely, and the style is was easy to achieve and maintain.

First, I parted her hair from ear to ear. Then  freestyled some cornrows and added ribbon, lacing it in her hair like you would a sneaker. The ends of the corn rows are pulled into 2 ponytails and secured with an ouchless band. (note: I braided the cornrows all the way down.) Then I braided both of the ponytails of braids together into one big braid. The rest of the hair is braided at night into 3 cornrows, and in the morning I take them down for a beautiful braidout. Ally says she has gotten so many compliments on this hairstyle at school, even teachers are stopping her in the hallway to get a closer look! And seriously, it doesn't get any easier than this!

My failed , and revised, attempt at 3 strand twists on Li'l Bit's hair

I decided to be a li'l bit creative with Li'l Bit's hair. After cowashing, conditioning, and corn braiding the front half of her head, I did my best attempt at unbanded two strand twists...and failed. Then I tried unbanded three strand twists.....they came out a little bit better, but it was still nothing I would send my baby out in public with. So I randomly banded the back of her head, did the three strand twists, attached barrettes, laced some ribbon through her braids, and here it is!

I just realized that the pictures are not the best quality, we are inside and I do not have the best camera. I will try to take some more tomorrow when we are out and about.  We are going to see The Lion King in 3D!!!! I am super uber excited about this, The Lion King is one of my favorite movies of all time. Is anyone else planning on seeing this in theater? It is only going to be playing for 2 weeks, so hurry! :)
